Women's lingerie has and always will be the articles of fantasy. A Vital element in the skilled art of undressing, it will never fail to work its strange magic on the male libido. A thin veil to place emphasis on forbidden attractions. Since the dawn of civilization, women have worn underwear.... sometimes openly and sometimes secret. These clingy undergarments, snares of Venus, clothed the erotic life of all eras. They indulged the fantasies of the women who placed them upon their bodies and the men who delighted in taking them off. Petticoats, corsets, drawers, brassieres, knickers, nylons and bustiers have all played their part in the mystery of which men and women have been united since the beginning of time.
The history of lingerie is an epic one.
Women have always treated lingerie as the need to cover up.... and uncover as a prelude to enhance their feminine allure. Figure hugging garments to lift and accentuate their bare breasts or to emphasize their hips, to adorn their bodies and make them more voluptuous.
Ancient Greek women wore a "zona" under their gown. This was a type of girdle, band of cloth or leather. It's only purpose to accentuate the figure and emphasize a women's femininity. Roman women wore tight fitting jewelled garters around their thighs. These garters were not to hold up stockings.......they were not invented yet. Their sole purpose was to arouse men's fetish desires. The girdles, scarves and embroidered fabrics encased the most treasured parts of a woman's body and gave it an "erotic charge" for the men viewing it.
As the myth goes, Venus designed the corset. Endowed with an overly voluptuous figure, Venus strongly recommended it to Juno. Martial published eleven books of epigrams depicting, acutely and often obscenely, aspects of contemporary Roman life. He described the corset as a snare from which no man could escape, a device admirably suited to the rekindling of the flames of love. He himself was aroused by the thought of touching the corset, "still warm from Venus's fire".
